Yesterday I began watching Lilyhammer, The Netflix original series. The premise is a fairly simple one, but also delightfully original.
A mafia wiseguy breaks the cardinal rule of omerta (a code of silence about criminal activity and a refusal to give evidence to the police.), gives up his new boss to the police after a botched assassination attempt, then decides to undertake his witness protection in Lillehammer, Norway.
As you can imagine there are a lot of cultural misunderstandings, and a Steven Van Zandt’s character Frank finds that his bulldozerish manner won’t fly in the face of Norwegian bureaucracy.
I do feel that this could have actually been a sequel the sopranos (where Steven Van Zandt played Silvio Dante) and has so far been a pleasure to watch.
I like the mix of Norwegian and English and it really is nice to see something aside from the norm.
