My Get Psyched Playlist

I’ve been feeling down in the dumps lately, I’m sleeping all the time, and to be honest I feel for my wife I’ve been a right moody git. So what I need is a real get psyched playlist, here are the songs that always get me pumped up and ready to party.

Why Every Man Should Own A Boating Jacket

One of the best items in my wardrobe is actually a fairly recent addition, and with the slight inkling of the possible hint of sunshine I feel that its time to bust out the Boating Jacket.

The Samuel Windsor- Torbay Jacket

A boating jacket is both smart and light weight, and can be worn as both a slightly more formal attire (ie with a tie) and as some sort of smart casual piece (I only put this in theory, I wont ever try it in practice). But lets face it in this day and age (because who goes to a regatta) they stand out, it adds a bit of colour to your wardrobe. And to be honest this is something I’ve been talking about a fair bit lately, formal men’s clothes have a tendency to be either black, navy or grey, what is wrong with injecting a little bit of colour into your sartorial game?

But the other thing that really works about a proper boating Jacket is that they are usually made out of some sort of cotton or linen so are actually pretty light to wear out and about, so you can look good without having to worry about sweating your proverbial’s off.

So go get one. I recommend checking out the range from Samuel Windsor here.

Marianna Reviews Her New Wario Plush

I like to spoil my child and lately she seems to have been getting into the Super Mario world (mainly owing to my purchasing a Nintendo Wii and 3ds, and soon I’ll be getting a Nintendo Switch) this was bolstered by Youtube hosting a compliment of uploads of the Super Mario Bros Supershow (featuring the Legend of Zelda) and  Sonic X.

This week as Marianna was a brave girl following an injury needing stitches, I got her a Wario for bearing it so well. Here is what she thought of her new Wario plush

What I like about him is his dungarees hes got purple straps behind him and I like them. And I like his shoes cuz they got green and brown on it. He’s nice and cwtchy, I like his hat, Its got a big W on it, he Cwtches me. He plays well with the other Mario teddys and he even kisses princess peach, Mario doesn’t mind, my mummy will be surprised to see that now I got Wario too. (NB Marianna currently has 13 video game related plushies from The Mario, Zelda and Sonic Games) But I want lots more plushes.

I only hope my wallet can afford it.

The Right Way To Watch Star Wars

The Man Down My Local (1).png

Usually you would think that a straight up watching order of 1, 2, 3 etc would be pretty straight forward, and once upon a time (in a galaxy far far away) this was the case, but however thanks to multiple prequels, sequels and tie in series the Star Wars viewing experience suddenly became a lot more complicated. But I have a handy guide put together right here so that the force can be with you too.

Episode 1: The Phantom Menace

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

The Clone Wars (Feature Length CGI Animated Film)

The Clone Wars (CGI Series 1-6)

Star Wars Rebels (Series 1-4)

Ranking The Star Trek Series

The Man Down My Local.png

Many many years ago, Jessica and I made a deal, that she would sit through all of Doctor Who (that still exists) if I were to sit through all of the varying Star Trek series. So after making some good progress through them (I haven’t quite managed all, but have made headway in most series) here are the shows that I have liked ranked from worst to best

Star Trek Discovery

It lacked the campness of the original runs, and was to violent, and didn’t really feel true to the original.

The Animated Series

I’m not sure if it was down to it being animated, its uncertain place in canon or its shorter episode times, but I found it difficult to get into the animated series

Voyager wasn’t actually a bad little show, but it felt like a rip off of so many other shows most notably lost in space.

The Next Generation

The next generation had a lot to recommend it, Patrick Stewart, Warf, and the Borg (even if they are just a Cyberman rip off from Doctor Who).

Deep Space Nine

I liked the whole idea of a fixed place for a Star Trek show, the whole premise was boldly going where no one has gone before. But it was good to see what happens when the federation boldly stays.  I also loved the interactions between the Ferengi characters and the law enforcement officer Odo

It was a Star Trek origin show, which saw humans out of their depth unchaperoned out in the universe, boldly going for the first time. You got to see the preconceived notions of humanity challenged at every turn, but then see the universes reactions to humanity reform as well.

The Original Series

Kirk, Spock and a whole host of camp sci-fi antics, there is no way that this wan’t going to be my favourite incarnation of trek.

Careers That I Might Just Pack It All In And Pursue

I have to be honest over the last few weeks I’ve been feeling a little bit flat and the thought of running off to some tropical island paradise and opening a rum shack on some beach sounds awesome. So here is a look at some back up options for my life at the moment.

Bartender In The Caribbean

This would be the ideal goal, just pack up and head to somewhere coastal on the equator, and build a little wooden shack on the beach with cold beer, endless rum and a fantastic wine list, and best of all whatever I want to put on the Jukebox.

I’d probably have better luck being paid not to turn up on dates with women, but as long as my wife got her cut I’m sure she wouldn’t mind excessively.

Curator at an Art Gallery

I don’t really know a lot about art other than what I like to look at, but I can adopt the sort of snooty demeanour that goes with the territory, I don’t see why I couldn’t pressure people to buy third rate reproductionist crap just by giving them a withering glance.

Party Planner

In spite of the stress that goes with them, I actually enjoy throwing parties, attending them less so, but the actual planning and throwing of them is something that I enjoy in a somewhat masochistic sort of way.

Wine Snob

I could probably work in a wine and speciality spirits shop. I know a lot about booze, and and can really put on a sort of snooty I’m better than you will ever be kind of attitude.

Fashion Designer

I cant draw, and I really can’t sew (it took me about 2 hours to sew six buttons on various waistcoats and jackets the other day), but I wouldn’t let that stop me from designing men’s clothes and accessories, (see the cufflinks I designed here, and the council tie I designed here).

Drunken Writer

If you’ve read this blog more than once you would probably think that this is the best career choice I could possibly have to fall back on. Most of my best stories and blog posts come from drinking. Whether that’s from a great story to tell, a startling hungover realisation, or some witty bon mot filled piece about some spectacularly sumptuous tipple that I’ve dared to drain in the past day or so.  I’d probably strive more towards Hemingway than Bukowski but I’d need to get a few more things published, if only as I would need an income to fund the drinking.

I’ll probably never give up on local government and politics but its nice to know that there are a few professions that I could fall back on if I’m hit with an early scandal.
